The OPEN DAYS – European Week of Regions and Cities is an annual four-day event during which cities and regions showcase their capacity to create growth and jobs, implement European Union cohesion policy, and prove the importance of the local and regional level for good European governance. Developing from the initial concept, the event has become a European networking platform for experts in regional and local development. Exchange of good practice in economic development and social inclusion, cross-border cooperation, public-private partnerships, regional innovation and community-led local development have become some of its many topics.
Over the years, the OPEN DAYS, organised by the Committee of the Regions together with the European Commission, has grown into the key event on EU Regional Policy. It welcomes some 6 000 participants in October each year (local, regional, national and European decision-makers and experts) for more than 100 workshops and debates, exhibitions and networking opportunities. Marking the new timeline towards the Europe 2020 strategy, the OPEN DAYS 2013 will be held under the slogan 'Europe's regions and cities taking off for 2020'.
The INTERREG IVC programme, under which POSSE has been developed, will organise together with all pan-European programmes the ‘100 EUrban solutions – Exhibition’. The INTERREG IVC programme will have an exhibition on the results of the Programme Capitalisation in 12 specific topics, one of them being sustainable transport. The INTERREG IVC programme will also organise four workshops presenting the results after one year of capitalising on specific topics. After each workshop, a networking session with the INTERREG IVC thematic experts is planned in the exhibition area.
The OPEN DAYS this year will take place in the week 7-10 October in Brussels.
